PPL Utilities Avtec StoryPPL Electric Utilities Implements Avtec Scout Console Solution

Avtec’s innovative IP based console solution, Scout, was implemented for PPL Electric Utilities, providing the company with VoIP/RoIP capabilities and a business continuity solution.

Gilbert, SC, 2009 – Avtec, Inc., a leading provider of mission-critical dispatch console systems in North America, successfully implemented their innovative Scout IP-based console solution at PPL Electric Utilities new dispatching center in Harrisburg PA. Deployed in phases, the system will grow in the coming months to 40 console positions controlling over 50 radios connected via IP with Avtec’s Outpost RoIP controller. In addition, telephony control for dozens of phone circuits is fully integrated into Scout via Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) T1 Gateways.

Scout provides PPL Electric Utilities with superior audio quality due to its’ dedicated Media Workstation. Combined with expandability and ease of use, Scout will serve the needs of PPL Electric Utilities customers for many years to come, said Avtec’s President Michael Branning.

Scout is built with a pure-IP open architecture that can simultaneously interface to multiple third-party radio systems including MPT, P25, NXDN, iDEN and DMR. Scout also supports standard analog, T1, and SIP IP telephony interfaces, as well as a NENA desk set interface.
