Avtec's RIC-M Solution Now Shipping and Available for Online Purchase

March 18, 2016 | by Tiffany Rushton

LEXINGTON, SC--(March 18, 2016) - Avtec, the nation's leading independent provider of Radio over IP (RoIP) dispatch console systems, today announced the availability of its professional-grade Radio Internet Protocol Communications Module (RIC-M). The device, which adds IP capabilities to certain legacy analog radio systems, is now available for immediate shipment, and can be purchased online through www.avtecinc.com/ric-m.

RIC-M converts ASTRO Conventional™ protocols into open standard Project 25 (P25) compliant Internet Protocol (IP). When used with an Avtec Scout™ dispatch console system, the RIC-M supports critical features including private and group calls, clear calls, radio check, call alert, emergency alert, radio monitor, and stun/revive. The RIC-M's seamless integration into an existing radio infrastructure expands interoperability beyond the otherwise proprietary Motorola radio system while bridging the gap between conventional protocols and contemporary IP technologies.

"Agencies have made a significant investment in their Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure. This has created market demand for a cost-effective way to extend the life of legacy Motorola base stations," said Michael Ridge, Avtec's director of strategic alliances. "Avtec customers who deployed RIC-M devices with Scout console systems tell us that eliminating monthly leased line charges is one of the benefits of migrating to IP. It also allows them to take a phased approach to replacing radio system subcomponents."

Avtec's RIC-M is designed and manufactured in the United States, using licensed technology first developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). The device successfully meets Federal Communications Commission Part 15 testing standards for Class A (commercial) devices, and was stringently tested by Avtec's engineers to ensure its ability to withstand environmental and ESD extremes.

"In extreme conditions, it's important that Avtec's RIC-M functions flawlessly," said Clyde Schlabach, Avtec's RIC-M hardware engineer. "The device needs to work as reliably in a desert environment as it would on a mountaintop."

To purchase RIC-M, or for more information on the module, go to www.avtecinc.com/ric-m, GSA Advantage, or the NASPO website.
