Digital Mobile Radio (DMR)
DMR is a worldwide open-standard for digital radios using two-slot TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access). A DMR Digital Mobile Radio Association was established in 2009 to promote interoperability. Key members of this association include Tait Radio Communications, Icom, Kenwood, and Motorola. The members have chosen the DVSI half-rate Advanced Multi-Rate Excitation (AMBE) vocoder to ensure interoperability.
The DMR standard defines 3 tiers of radios:
- Tier I: License-free low power
- Tier II: Licensed Conventional
- Tier III: Licensed Trunked
Avtec’s Scout console provides connectivity for the TaitNet DMR (Tier III Trunking) system as well as additional upcoming DMR systems.
