Heyward Leaphart is vice president of engineering for Avtec, Inc. Leaphart earned a promotion to his current role in 2016, after serving as the company’s director of engineering since joining Avtec in 2013. As the company’s chief engineer, Leaphart oversees a team of 40 employees in developing new Scout™ features and innovations, and fulfilling the specifications of Avtec’s product roadmap.
Prior to joining Avtec, Leaphart spent 12 years with EMC Corporation, where he helped the worldwide software enterprise manage the deployment of new features for the company’s hardware and software releases. Leaphart held roles of increasing responsibility with SteelEye Technology and with NCR, where he spent nearly 17 years in the company’s Columbia, S.C. operation helping to produce and deliver customer care applications for the telecommunications and utilities industries.
Leaphart received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of South Carolina. He obtained his PMP certification in 1998 and has practiced project management in many of his roles at NCR, EMC, and Avtec. Heyward and his wife, Cheryl, have two sons, and reside near Chapin, SC.
