CARES Act

Education relief money is coming.
How will your school invest it?

On March 27, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law, including the Education Stabilization Fund, which earmarked $13.2 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Education Relief Fund (ESSER) and $14 billion for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEER).

Qualifying purchases via the CARES Act

K-12 schools can use their funding for anything that helps support students and staff, including the development of “procedures and systems to improve the preparedness and response efforts of local educational agencies.”*

Colleges and universities must use at least 50% of their funds on emergency financial aid grants for students, while the other half can be used at the discretion of the institution.**

ESSER Fund

State Education Agencies (SEAs) that applied for this funding from the U.S. Department of Education in July 2020 must redistribute 90% of the monies as subgrants to their respective Local Education Agencies (LEAs) within one year of receiving them.

Because student safety is always a priority.

From large public school districts to universities, these stimulus monies are an ideal way to fund a dedicated communication dispatch center to provide security for students and staff in the event of emergencies.

Public safety at the school and college levels is an ever-increasing concern, even in the shadow of COVID-19. When your school finally reconvenes (and it will), imagine having a dedicated communication dispatch center already in place. Your school will be capable of responding quickly to any future emergency while effectively assisting local and/or campus police in detecting, deterring, and resolving crimes and incidents.

That's where Avtec comes in.

We provide dispatch solutions to meet the specific needs of educational institutions—from K-12 school districts to colleges and universities. And thousands of first responders and public safety dispatchers rely on the mission-critical technology of our signature enterprise suite of dispatch consoles, Avtec Scout™.

Imagine being able to reduce the impact of a crisis incident on campus or even preventing it from occurring at all. Having an Avtec Scout dispatch console at the center of your school emergency operations plan can reduce incident response times and directly connect your school officials to security and public safety first responders.

Be smart about keeping your school safe.
